Summer 2023 Newsletter

If you build it, he will come.
— Ray Kinsella, Field of Dreams

September 30th is the 272nd day of the year. It is a Saturday. It is the last day of September. After the 30th, 91 days will remain in 2023. The high temperature should be around 70 degrees with a low of 61 degrees. It is likely there will be a gentle breeze and just a small chance of rain. An ideal day. A bit of calm before the holiday hustle and bustle.

A good night to get out of the house and enjoy being around friends and family. Unfortunately, Taylor Swift’s “Era Tour” will be on hiatus - - her concert film will not be available in theaters until October 13th. It will be too nice to stay inside. Fall foliage will be on display. The air will be crisp.

“If you build it, he will come.” Most people will recognize this line from the 1989 classic baseball movie “Field of Dreams” starring Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones and Ray Liotta. For the purpose of this newsletter, “if you build it” refers to “Just One Dash” which will be celebrating its 3 rd year anniversary by hosting its first fundraiser on September 30 th at the historic “White House” in Barrington. “He will come” refers to everyone that would like to come together to hear about what JOD has been able to accomplish so far, learn about the families we are currently working with, and what we hope to do going forward. Our hope is we are just getting started. We actually have to turn away families right now as our mission has proved to be worthwhile and in demand.

“He will come” also refers to Father Britto Berchmans. Father Britto is known in these parts as the former pastor of Saint Anne’s in Barrington and Saint Paul of the Cross in Park Ridge. Father Britto has generously agreed to be the keynote speaker for the “Just One Dash” fundraiser which is only fitting as JOD would not exist if not for his wisdom and inspiration. If you have never heard Father Britto speak he is dynamic, insightful and entertaining. The evening will kick off at 7 PM with heavy appetizers and drinks. At around 8 PM, the “Just One Dash” message will be told followed by Father Britto’s message. By about 9 PM you can stay, socialize, and enjoy music or you can depart into the beautiful fall night with your inspirational and charitable cup full and hopefully overflowing.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly at 847-452-5121 or by email at terry@justonedash.org. We hope you can come.
